Abstract

1327077 Rotary-piston machines ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 1 Oct 1970 [2 Oct 1969] 46653/70 Heading F1F A radial sealing strip in a rotary-piston machine having a piston with n sides planetarily rotatable within a housing chamber defined by an epitrochoidal surface having n-1 lobes, have a convexly curved surface 6 facing the chamber surface 2 which blends into the peripheral surface 7 of the piston 1, extensions 8 wedge-shaped in cross-section on that side of the strip facing the piston centre mounted in correspondingly configured grooves 10 at the piston corners and one or more radially directed bores 9 extending from the convexly curved surface to between the wedge-shaped extensions 8. There may be more than two wedgeshaped extensions with a bore or bores extending from the convexly curved surface to between each adjacent pair of wedge-shaped extensions. With the invention, the load acting on the base of the strip from the higher pressure working chamber 4 is less than would be the case with parallel-sided extensions with consequential less sealing force acting on the working chamber surface and less wear.
