1327047 Mechanical switches JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 19 Jan 1971 [7 Feb 1970] 6000/70 Heading H1N A switch comprising a rotor 14, mounted between a cover 11 and base 12 for angular movement about a first axis at right angles to the base and about a second axis at right angles to the first axis, has a contact 26 carried by the rotor for co-operation with fixed contacts when the rotor is moved about the first axis and so mounted on the rotor that during angular movement of the rotor about the second axis the rotor pivots relative to the contact member 26 such that the contact member 26 is not pivoted relative to the base 12. As shown, the rotor 14 is secured by a pin 18 to a pivot post 13 which is angularly and axially movable in the switch body. Angular movement of the rotor about the axis of post 13 causes contacts 26 and 34 to co-operate with fixed contacts (19, 21, 22, 23 and 32, 33, Fig. 2, not shown) and lifting the rotor 14 by lever 16 against the action of spring 31 causes it to pivot about its lower distal edge and lifts post 13 axially such that a contact disc (29) thereon bridges fixed contacts (24, 25) on the underside of base 12. Contacts 26 and 34 are urged towards the base by respective springs 27 and 35 which also act on locating detent balls 28 and 36. The contact 26 comprises a U-shaped member having arms 37 engaged in respective tapered grooves 38 in rotor 14 which allow the contact 26 to remain in full contact with the base when the rotor 14 is pivoted to lift post 13.
