Abstract
1327033 Photographic silver halide development AGFAGEVAERT 2 Oct 1970 [27 Oct 1969] 52565/69 Heading G2C A photographic non-colour-forming development method comprises developing an exposed silver halide material with an aqueous alkaline composition in the presence of a hydroxylamine developing agent and a compound of the formula:- wherein Y is -OH, -NH 2 or -N(R 3 )R 4 where R 3 is alkyl and R 4 is alkyl or substituted alkyl and each of X 1 and X 2 is hydrogen, halogen or an electron-donating group, and wherein (i) when Y is -OH or -NH 2 , R 1 is H 1 alkyl, substituted alkyl or ethylene, substituted ethylene, propylene or substituted propylene attached to the adjacent ortho position of the benzene ring, and R 2 is ethylene, substituted ethylene, propylene or substituted propylene attached to the ortho position of the benzene ring, or when Y is -NH 2 , X 1 is hydrogen and X 2 is an electron-donating group, R 2 may be alkyl or substituted alkyl, or R 1 and R 2 may form together with the N-atom to which they are attached a pyrrolidine ring; and (ii) when Y is -N(R 3 )R 4 , X 1 and X 2 are both hydrogen and R 1 is alkyl, ethylene, substituted ethylene, propylene or substituted propylene attached to the ortho position of the benzene ring and R 2 is alkyl or substituted alkyl (provided not more than one of R 2 and R 4 is substituted alkyl) or, when R 1 is attached to the ortho position of the benzene ring, R 2 may further be hydrogen. Compounds specified include 1-(4-sulphobutyl)-6-diethylamino -1:2:3:4- tetrahydroquinoline, 2-amino-4-diethylaminoaniline sulphate, 1-ethyl-6-hydroxy- 1:2:3:4 -tetrahydro-quinoline hydrochloride and 9- hydroxy-julolidine, and developing agents include hydroxylamine and N-methyl-hydroxylamine hydrochlorides and N:N-diethyl-hydroxylamine oxalate. A superadditive development effect is obtained.
