1326990 Treating endless webs ARGELICH TERMES Y Ca 10 Dec 1971 [16 Dec 1970 19 June 1971] 57582/71 Heading D1L Apparatus for treating endless lengths of cloth in rope form comprises a tubular body of right-angled triangular shape 1 with rounded vertices and having its base section 2 longer than its vertical side, a pump 25 for circulating treatment liquid in the tubular body, a liquid heat exchanger 29 disposed between the pump and the treatment vessel, liquid inlet and outlet means to the treatment vessel, liquid jet means housed in a portion 4 of the treatment vessel for driving the endless cloth round the apparatus and a cylindrical chamber 5 forming an extension to the vertical side of the vessel for the introduction of the cloth to the apparatus. The liquid jet means is supplied with heated treatment liquid by pump 25 through conduit 51 (Fig. 2 not shown) and preferably comprises a braking jet 39 and a drawing jet 40 (Fig. 5) arranged to have a common external sleeve and operate in opposite directions, the forcing pressure of the liquid emitted by the drawing jet 40 being controlled by valves 51(a) (Fig. 2) to be greater than that emitted by the braking jet 39. Liquid entering the jets from conduits 51 passes through a series of orifices 41a in inner wall 41 to jet chambers 52 and exits these chambers through outlet orifices 58 to contact the travelling endless cloth passing through central chamber 53. The direction of travel of the cloth may be reversed by altering the relative forcing pressure of the liquids passing upwardly and downwardly from the jet means. The jet assembly is preferably removable from the housing 4 through chamber 5 so that jet assemblies having different diameters may be used depending on the characterics of the cloth to be treated. The apparatus preferably also includes frusto-conical tubular sections 8 and 10 joining the larger diameter portion of the treatment vessel to the jet housing 4 and a portion 3 of smaller diameter which opens into the upper chamber 5. The circulation speed of the cloth may be measured by a yardage counter driven by roller 38 mounted in the hypotenuse section of the apparatus and a by-pass conduit 23 with valve 24 may be provided to regulate the pressure of liquid between two sections of the vessel. An inclined guide ramp and suction device 15 are disposed below the jet housing 4 to cause the cloth to fold transversely so that it passes through the larger diameter sections of the vessel in a piled condition (Fig. 3, not shown).
