Abstract
1326960 Windscreen wipers WESTFALISCHE METALL INDUSTRIE KG HUECK & CO 13 Nov 1970 [27 Nov 1969] 54126/70 Heading A4F [Also in Division H1] A switch arrangement for a motor vehicle comprises a lever 1 adapted to be mounted on the vehicle steering column with an end projecting adjacent the steering wheel, and having at said end a switch with an operating member 8 for switching on a windscreen wiper motor in different speed stages, and a switch having an operating member 9 for intermittently energizing the wiper motor. The member 8 comprises a ring rotatable on a switch housing 2 and having an inwardly directed lug for rotating a part of electrically insulating material carrying contact bridges pressed by springs 16, 17, 18, Fig.3 (not shown) on to contacts on a baseplate 19. The member 9 comprises a rotary cap on the housing 2 and carries a contact bridge 13 urged by a compression spring 14 on to a contact 15 and a resistance track 11, and towards an arcuate contact 12 on a baseplate 10. When the member 9 is rotated for intermittent operation of the wiper motor the contact bridge slides from engagement with the baseplate 10 to engage the contact 12 to switch on the motor, and rotary adjustment of the member 9 to vary the length of resistance track 11 short circuited by the contact bridge determines the interval between successive energizations of the wiper motor. In an alternative embodiment the rotary cap 9 is replaced by a rotary member 20 Fig. 4 (not shown) projecting from the housing 2 and of smaller maximum diameter than the ring 8. The lower end of the lever 1 projects into a housing (not shown) containing switches e.g. for controlling flashing direction indicator lamps or the vehicle lighting system, which switches are operated by pivoting the lever 1.
