1326153 Gas cutting VSESOJUZNY NAUCHNO-ISSLEDOVATELSKY I PROEKTNY INSTITUT TEKHNOLOGII KHIMICHESKOGO I NEFTYANOGO APPARATOSTROENIA 2 July 1971 31091/71 Heading B3V [Also in Division F2] A device for cutting a hole in a tube 24 comprises a cutting torch 10 secured to a rod 9 which meshes with a gear 23 which in turn meshes with a follower 20 for following the curvature of the tube 24, so that when the cutter 10 is rotated by a wheel 2 to form the hole, it follows the vertical movement of the follower 20. The torch carrying rod 9 is carried by a carriage 8 positionable on guides 5, 6 which are fixed to the rotatable wheel 2. A slider 17 is connected to the carriage 8 and is movable along a slot 18 in a cross-member 16 which is reciprocable along guides 12, 13 and which carries the gear 23 and a bar 20 connected to a follower roller 21. When the wheel 2 is rotated by a drive 4, the gas cutter 10 is moved in a circle and the cross-member 16 is reciprocated by the slider 17. The gear 23 is rotated by the bar 20 when the follower roller 21 moves vertically causing the torch carrying rod 9 to be moved by a corresponding amount so that the distance between the cutter 10 and tube 24 remains constant. The guide 5 is movable by a handwheel 7 to enable the carriage 8 and cutter 10 to be moved away from the intended line of cut in order to initiate the cutting process. The device can be secured to the tube 24 by magnets 25.
