Abstract

1325996 Desalination of water A P PEDRICK 9 March 1971 6386/71 Heading BIB [Also in Division H2] A combination of a large concrete or like flywheel (which rotates about a vertical axis in a pit within which the flywheel was cast, as described and claimed in Specification 1317330) with generators of electricity powered by the stored kinetic energy in the flywheel, is further combined with means for desalinating seawater. Means (e.g. coil, oil, gas, nuclear or solar) are provided for boiling the sea water and the steam, before being condensed (by a flash distillation process), is made to impinge on cups or blades carried by the flywheel, the flywheel is coupled, in a like manner to that described in Specification 1317330, to dynamos or other generators of electricity. The intention is to use the desalinated sea water to irrigate the surrounding land and at the same time generate electricity.
