Abstract

1325933 Coating with metals by vapour deposition BEKAERT S A N V 19 April 1971 [13 Feb 1970] 21779/71 Heading C7F Trelliswork, network or other perforated strip or sheet material is coated by vacuum vapour deposition (e.g. of SiO 2 or Cr) by moving the material 1 between the upper 12 and lower 13 walls of a casing 11 which defines a deposition zone and heating coating material disposed on the lower wall 13 to condense upon the material. Coating thickness can be controlled by regulating the temperature of the material 1 or its speed when passing through the deposition zone: In the figure, the casing 11 is situated within a vacuum chamber 6 and substrate material from a roll 2 is guided over spiked rolls 4, 5 through the casing 11 and out of the chamber 6 through a seal 10. In another embodiment the casing 11 forms the walls of the vacuum chamber and the substrate heater is located outside the vacuum chamber.
