Abstract
1325816 Centrifugal separators NETHERLANDS APPLIED SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH FOR INDUSTRY TRADE & COMMERCE 13 Oct 1971 [13 Oot 1970] 47655/71 Heading B2P An apparatus for degassing liquid, e.g. for removing an inert gas such as argon from liquid sodium comprises a cylindrical container 1 provided with a tangential supply duct 8 for the gas-laden liquid, gas discharge means 10, 11 towards one end 4 of the container and a discharge duct 9 for the degassed liquid, the container wall being provided at its inner surface with a partition 12 to which is attached a cyclone tube 13 coaxial with the container, open at its ends and having one end situated near the other end 6 of the container. In operation, the liquid to be degassed enters tangentially into the annular space above the partition 12 and a preliminary separation of the gas due to centrifugal force occurs towards a gas discharge duct 10 and a gas trap 11. The partially degassed liquid then flows over the edge 19 of the cyclone tube 13 and down the latter in helical fashion whereby the rest of the gas is liberated and flows towards a central body 15 which is provided with a helical rib 16 which is wound in a direction opposite to that of the helical movement of the liquid down the tube 13 to facilitate separation of the gas upwards towards the duct 10 and prevent its entrainment with the liquid. The degassed liquid then flows form the lower edge of the tube 13 and up the annular space below the partition 12 and out through the tangential discharge duct 9.
