Abstract

An apparatus for contacting particles with and separating them from a fluid stream, comprising: a reaction vessel intended to contain a bed of fluidized particles at a lower portion thereof; an elongated vertical riser reactor having an outlet at its upper end and an inlet at its lower end, said riser extending within said vessel through a lower portion thereof and having its outlet above said bed of fluidized particles, said riser tube and said container forming a particle detachment section defined by the annular space between the exterior wall of said riser tube and the interior wall of said container; means for introducing solid particles into said riser tube; means for introducing a fluid into said riser tube to carry said particles through said riser tube into said container; means located in an upper part of said container to withdraw fluid that has passed to said container; means connected to said detachment section to remove solid particles; and means for introducing a release fluid into said release section.
