Abstract
1325729 Making ignition coils JOSEPH LUCAS (INDUSTRIES) Ltd 3 Nov 1970 52124/70 Heading B3A [Also in Division H1] A method of manufacturing an ignition coil includes the steps of positiong a short length of thin gauge conductive strip 13 on the inner surface of a hollow insulating former 11 such that the end of the strip 14 projects beyond the end of the adjacent inner surface, positioning a length of copper braid 15 on the outer surface of the former, securing the braid 15, and strip 13 to the former 10 and to each other with a staple 16 which electrically interconnects the braid and strip, inserting electrically conductive core into the former so that it electrically contacts the conductive strip 13, and winding a coil on to the former and electrically connecting one end of the wire forming the coil to the copper braid such that there is an electrical connection between the wire forming the coil and the conductive core. The latter two stages, i.e. the insertion of the conductive core and the winding of the coil may be interchanged. Preferably the end 14 of the strip 13 is bent away from the former axis before insertion of the core to prevent damaging the strip.
