Abstract
1325396 Polysulphides SOC NATIONALS DES PETROLES D'AQUITAINE 17 Nov 1971 [20 Nov 1970] 53405/71 Heading C3R Dithiol polysulphides of formula HS- (R-S x ) m R-S H, where R is an organic group, x is from 2 to 6 and n is from 3 to 20, are obtained by reacting simultaneously an organic dihalogen compound X-R-X where X is halogen, with hydrogen sulphide and an aqueous solution of alkali metal or ammonium polysulphide at 80 to 120 C. The dithiol polysulphides may be heated with sulphur to obtain plasticized sulphur products containing elemental sulphur or to obtain polysulphide polymers containing no elemental sulphur. In Examples sodium polysulphides (obtained from aqueous caustic soda, sulphur and hydrogen sulphide) are reacted with hydrogen sulphide and dichlorodiethyl formal and dichlorodibutyl formal to obtain liquid dithiol polysulphides; the products are heated with sulphur to obtain plasticized sulphur compositions.
