Abstract

1324965 Hand-tool handles; hammers STANLEY WORKS 31 Jan 1972 4438/72 Headings B4C and B4K A percussive hand tool has its handle and head secured together by a self locking wedge member 14 which comprises a central tapered body part 42 and a plurality of side arms 44 integral with the body 42 and projecting from both sides thereof, at least one of the side arms 44 projecting less on one side than on the other. The side arms 44 are tapered and jagged, with small locking shoulders 72 to prevent loosening. Projecting triangular-section locking wedges 74 are also provided between the side arms 44 and towards the lower edge of the body part 42, the locking wedges having flat tops or shoulders 76 to assist in locking the whole wedge member 14 in position. As shown in Fig. 1 the wedge member is preferably fixed in position with the centre part 42 extending diagonally across the handle receiving aperture 22 in the tool head. The wedge member may be formed of reinforced plastics material such as fibre-reinforced acetal resins.
