Description

dldtrd tairt @me cryin.
Lette/rs Patent N. 92,507, dated July 13, 1869.
nvrPRovnn WIRE-CUTTER.
.The Schedule referred to'in these Letters Patent and making part f the same.
To all whom, 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY'AXTELL, of Yreka', in the county of Siskiyou, and Statel of California, have invented anew and useful Improvement vin Wire- Cutter; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the nit to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates'to a new and improved implement for cutting wire or bolt-iron of the. smaller sizes, whereby much time and labor are saved; and
It consists in constructing the handles or parts which arefpivoted together, with cutting-edges ar-v ranged eccentrically to each other, and on aline with the side of the tool, as will be hereinafter more fully described. Y
In the accompanying plate of drawingsl Figure 1 represents a longitudinal sideview of the tool, showing the cutting-edges and the manner of construction. v
Figure 2 is an edge view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This implement or tool is formed of two parts, A and B, connected together by a rivet-or bolt, G.
It will be seen that these two parts A and B act as levers, 'G being the fulcrum, with the cutting-edges formed on the short ends of the levers.
vd is the cutting-edge of the part A, and e is the cutting-edge of part B.
. These edges are so formed and arranged (in relation to each other) that they work eccentrically to each other.
, The distance of the'cutting-edges from the fulcrum G is so short, as compared with the long end of the levers, that great power is applied to any resisting medium, as v'vire and the smaller sizes of round orother iron',"or other metals, as copper or brass.
To render the, tool strong and durable, the parut-B is slotted for receiving the part A, so that the fulcrum- Ein or bolt Gis supported at` both ends, as seen in 'lhis tool is particularly adaptedlwhen made of proper size and strength) to eut o the ends of bolts in carriagemaking and. other similar work, as well as' rivets 'in a fixed position, as it will beseen that the cutting-edges are on'a linewith the side of the tool.
These tools may be made of any desired size7 'thusadapting them to use 'in blacksmith-shops for cutting up small iron, for cutting olii' the ends of bolts iu car riage-making, and1 all description off machinery, and fcr a great variety of purposes, as must beobvious to al. v.
Having thus describedmy invention, l
I claim as' new, and desire to secure by Letters Patentp The improved wire-cutter, constructed, as described, of the pivotedv parts A B, provided respectively with the cutting-edges cl c, arranged eecentrically to each other, and on a line with the side ofthe to0l,as herein described for the purpose specified.
