Abstract

1324428 Web slitting machine BELOIT CORP 15 Dec 1970 [16 Dec 1969] 59514/70 Heading B4B 6 A web slitter assembly comprises a pair of rotatable disc blades 12, 15 arranged to be moved into co-operation with each other to slit lengthwise a web 17 passing between the blades, the blades being carried by mountings 11, 14 slidable on rails 13, 16 respectively. The blade 12 is mounted on an arm 35 pivoted at 40 on a frame 25 which is movably mounted on a rail 13 by means of a rack-and-pinion device 30, 52, Fig. 2; the frame can be locked in position by a fluid-pressure actuated piston 54. The arm is raised or lowered in order to obtain the correct overlap between the blades by means of a piston device 58, 59, Fig. 2. The blade 12 is freely rotatable on a bearing (67), Fig. 3 (not shown), mounted on a non-rotatable shaft (68) which is movable axially by means of a piston device (71, 72) in order to obtain a side-loading on the lower blade 15. In order also to provide a toe-in of the blade 12 relative to the blade 15, the arm is angularly movable about a vertical axis by means of a cam-and-pin means (85, 87). The blade 15 is also freely rotatable on a bearing (110), Fig. 5 (not shown), mounted in an arm 95, Fig. 4 which, is carried by a slide 96, 97 movable on a rail 16 by means of a rack-and-pinion device 16R, 116, Fig. 4. The slide can be locked in the adjusted position on the rail either by a fluid-pressure operated piston 105 or by a bolt 101.
