Abstract

1323928 Feeding bottles BRISTOL-MYERS CO 3 Nov 1970 52210/70 Heading A5X A nursing container assembly 10 for infant feeding comprises a container 12 having a threaded neck portion 14, a thin wall portion 28 closing the upper end 20 of said neck portion, a line of weakening 34 on a portion of the thin wall for facilitating separation of the wall, a screw-cap 32 received on the neck portion, a nipple 44 seated on the screw-cap, and means 36a for applying pressure to the thin wall along the line of weakening in response to rotation of said screwcap. The container assembly is filled to the desired level with the required feed 16 and the crimp-cap 18 sealed over the opening 20 of the container and the feed processed and the container serilised. The screw-cap 32, nipple 44 and cover member 50 are sterilised previously and placed onto the container 10 under aseptic conditions and the whole assembly is then packaged. In use, the transparent band 52 is torn along the scored slits (52a) and the cover member 50 is turned so as to tighten the screw-cap 32. The latter comes into contact with the upper surface of the thin wall 28 and further tightening causes the wall to separate along the scored line 34. During this operation there is no necessity for the nipple 44 to be exposed and thus contaminated. The screw-cap 32 is preferably fabricated from plastics material.
