1323703 Clamps GORLE-WHITE CO Ltd 19 April 1971 [23 March 1970 1 Oct 1970] 14009/70 and 46670/70 Heading B4W A clamping jaw 12 or 13 for sliding along a shank 11 comprises a shank receiving portion at one end thereof, a clamping pad 18 or 118 at the other end thereof, a first contact pad 21 or 121 and a second contact pad 19 or 119 for frictional engagement with the sides of the shank, the first contact pad has projections for engaging the shank which have a crest radius such that in use the projections electrically deform the surface of the shank into depressions corressponding to the crests of the projections. Jaw 13 is a fixed pair whilst jaw 12 is the pair that can apply a clamping force to a workpiece between the jaws. Jaw 13 comprises sheet steel pressings 14, 15 secured together by pins 16. A leaf spring 28 maintains gripping of the shank by the contact pads when there is no load on clamping pad 18. The contact pads are pivotable about pins 22, 23 although the movement of pad 21 is limited by pin 16. Clamping pad 18 comprises a yoke 31 pivotably mounted by pin 29 to arm 13. Spring 28 engages in a groove in pin 29 and locates it axially. A spring clip 37 retains a clamping disc 33 which is freely rotable. Jaw 12 is similar to jaw 13 except that contact pad 119 is movable in an arcuate path, movement being controlled by a pair of links 103 and slots 101. In operation inward movement of screw 105 causes pivotable movement of the jaw about pin 123 so that there is upward movement of clamping pad 118 to exert a clamping force on a workpiece. The jaws 12 and 13 may be used singly where appropriate.
