Abstract

1323660 Valves CATERPILLAR TRACTOR CO 23 June 1972 [2 Sept 1971] 29962/72 Heading F2V In a spool valve comprising a bore and spaced inlet 14, and outlet 16, 18 ports, means are provided to prevent leakage of fluid to said outlet port when the valve is closed comprising a drain passage 28 communicating with said bore intermediate said inlet and outlet ports for directing the leaked fluid to a low pressure area 28<SP>1</SP>, said drain passage being provided with a check valve 38 which closes the passage when the valve is open and opens the passage when the valve is closed. The check valve comprises a spring loaded ball 32 held against a slidable piston 38 provided with a small orifice 40 through which the leakage fluid escapes. When the valve is opened the fluid pressure in the section 28 depresses the piston and closes the ball against its seat. In the described embodiment two outlet ports are connected respectively to the ends of a hydraulic jack. When one of the outlet ports is in communication with the inlet port the other is in communication with an exhaust port 26 and hence to a tank.
