Abstract
1323499 Tumbling GRAV-I-FLO CORP 16 Sept 1971 [31 Dec 1970] 43206/71 Heading B3D A workpiece finishing machine comprises an endless belt 30 trained around parallel rollers 26, 28, a slack top run of the belt 30 co-operating with fixed side plates (42), (44), Fig. 3 (not shown), to define a generally triangular chamber, and means 56-62 being provided for driving the belt 30 so that workpieces and finishing media in the chamber follow a path upwardly along one end of the chamber, downwardly across the top of the chamber and then downwardly along the opposite end of the chamber to the apex of the triangle, Fig. 5 (not shown) (i.e. a clockwise cycle as seen in Fig. 1). The finishing media may comprise generally conical members (68), Fig. 6 (not shown), of abrasive-containing synthetic resin, ceramic, etc., and liquid, e.g. aqueous detergent or water, may be supplied through a nozzle 72, draining through holes (54), Fig. 4 (not shown), in a belt guide plate 46 into a sump 24 for recycling. For discharge of the workpieces, the belt drive is reversed and an hydraulic cylinder unit 38 is actuated to urge a pivotably supported roller 36 against the belt 30, the top run being raised to a taut position 82 to discharge e.g. into a conveyer 84. The belt 30 is preferably formed with angled cleats (70), Fig. 3 (not shown), to assist in raising the workpieces and finishing media.
