[Class 82 (ii)] In an apparatus for use in pickling, washing and analogous dipping operations on tubes, bars &c. of the type in which a number of tubes &c. are carried on the bight of a flexible carrier, e.g. in the form of a chain, adapted to lower and raise the tubes &c. into and out of a bath or other receptacle with a relative rolling or tumbling action, the flexible carrier is mounted on a movable framework adapted to transport the tubes &c. from one position to another. In one form, the framework is pivotally supported and in another it is provided with wheels which run on rails. In the first form, Fig. 1, the flexible carrier m is secured at its ends to drums k mounted on shafts j secured to the outer ends of arms b, c of a framework a provided with trunnions d and supported on horizontal arms in bearings e between a pair of parallel baths f; one containing pickling liquid and the other water. The framework a is adapted to be swung about to pivot axis through 90 degrees so as to transfer the carrier from one bath to the other. The shafts j<SP>1</SP> are driven from an electric motor o through a reduction gear p and chains q, t. In the second form, Fig. 3, the part b<SP>1</SP> of the framework a<SP>1</SP> carrying the shaft j' to which the carrier m<SP>1</SP> is secured, passing over a pulley 5 mounted on the part c<SP>1</SP> of the framework a<SP>1</SP> is mounted on wheels 2 which run on rails 3 so that the carrier m<SP>1</SP> may be transferred from one bath f<SP>1</SP> to another one which is in line therewith. In another form, the framework a<SP>1</SP> may be mounted to run on arcuate rails, being carried by arms secured to a vertical pivot.
