Abstract

1461589 Conveying articles through liquid TRUE BROS CONVEYORS Ltd 21 Oct 1974 [19 Oct 1973 2 April 1974] 48848/73 and 14527/74 Heading B8A [Also in Division F4] Apparatus for cooling buoyant articles, e.g. polystyrene articles from an injection moulding machine, in a tank 1 of liquid coolant, e.g. water, comprises a first conveyer which, as shown, consists of endless belts passing round rollers on a frame 5 which is pivotable about an axis 6 by a piston and cylinder unit 12 between positions in which the lower runs of the belts are above and below the level of coolant in the tank 1. In operation, articles A are fed into the tank down transverse shoots, the frame 5 is lowered so that the lower belt runs hold the articles below the surface of the coolant and convey them to the other end of the tank, where they are removed by a second conveyer 13. The first conveyer may be driven by a reciprocating pneumatic motor 10 and a ratchet mechanism, or may driven continuously. In a second embodiment, Figs. 3-5 (not shown) the first conveyer comprises an endless band of articulated plastics plates.
