1323335 Epoxidation process DEUTSCHE GOLDUND SILBER-SCHEIDENASTALT 17 Aug 1970 [21 Aug 1969] 39473/70 Heading C2C Olefinically unsaturated compounds are epoxidised by dewatering an aqueous solution of a percarboxylic acid containing at least two carbon atoms by extraction and/or azeotropic distillation with the compound to be epoxidised and keeping the extract obtained at 30‹-100‹ C. until the required conversion to the epoxide has been obtained. The pressure prevailing in the distillation column during the azeotropic distillation may be adjusted in such a way as to give a sump temperature of 20‹ to 80‹ C. The molarratio of the olefinically unsaturated compound to percarboxylic acid is between 1À2 : 1 and 25 : 1. Peracetic acid is preferably used and suitable olefinically unsaturated compounds include diisobutylene, styrene, allyl acetate, allyl chloride, diallyl ether, 2-methallyl ether and 1-buten-3-ol.
