Abstract

1322773 Parallel core wire ropes HEIN LEHMANN & CO AG and UNITECTA OBERFLAECHENSCHUTZ GmbH 29 July 1970 [31 July 1969 (2) 10 Oct 1969] 36631/70 Heading D1T A cable, e.g. for suspension bridges, has a core of parallel wires 1, (Fig. 2) the interstices 2, 3, 4 being filled with grouting, adhesive, and/or anti-corrosive compound or agent, a layer of fabric 5, and an elastomeric sheath 6. In manufacture (Fig. 1) the wires are passed in spaced relationship through a tank B of the grouting, adhesive or anti-corrosive compound through perforated end plates. They are gathered together by rollers or a die at C, squeezing out excess compound, and the outer surface of the bundle is coated with a similar compound at D. Polyester lattice fabric is wound on at E, preferably in two layers of opposed lay, and the bundle is coated with elastomeric material of low or zero solvent content at F. The elastomer preferably has a polyurethane, polyethylene or polyester base. At G the cable is wound onto a drum. An alternative non-continuous process is described, for the manufacture of more rigid cables in situ. In this case the components of the apparatus are mounted on movable trucks.
