Abstract
1322532 Recovering metal valves SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ NV 19 May 1971 [21 May 1970 5 March 1971] 24633/70 and 6131/71 Heading C1A [Also in Division C2] Metal values such as Cu, Fe, Ni, Co, are separated from an aqueous medium by contacting it with an organic phase comprising an organic solvent, which is substantially immiscible with water and an extracting agent consisting of a hydroxy-oxime of the general formula A-C (= NOH) = R in which R is an aliphatic group and A is a cyclic organic group carrying as substituents at least (a) a hydroxyl group at the ring carbon atom in the 2 position sith respect to the oxime group and (b) an organic group R<SP>1</SP>, so as to extract at least a portion of the metal values into the organic phase, and, optionally, recovering one or more metal values and/or metals from the organic phase. The solvent may be, for example, kerosene, toluene or xylene. The aqueous medium may be the leach liquor resulting from leaching ores. The process is particularly useful for the extraction of Cu(II) from a medium that also contains Fe(III). The metal values may be stripped from the organic phase, e.g. with sulphuric or nitric acid.
