Abstract
1470998 Separation of metal values SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ BV 11 June 1974 25823/74 Heading C1A A process for the separation of metal values from an ammoniacal aqueous solution containing amine complexes of the same metal and an ammonium salt of an acidic organic metal extracted (such as may be obtained, for example, by leaching an ore or metal-containing waste materials with aqueous ammonia and extracting part of the metal values from the leach solution with an organic solvent containing the acidic organic metal extractant) comprises expelling ammonia from said aqueous solution (e.g. by boiling or by stripping with an inert gas) until said acidic organic metal extractant is formed in situ as a separate phase containing said metal values. Metal values which may be extracted by this method include copper, nickel and cobalt values; the acidic organic metal extractant is preferably a tertiary alkanemonocarboxylic acid having 6 to 20 (most preferably 9 to 11) carbon atoms per molecule.
