Abstract
1321781 Igniting gas burners VERNITRON CORP 18 Jan 1972 [28 Jan 1971] 2299/72 Heading F4F A piezo-electrically ignited gas burner comprises a burner head 10 which receives gaseous fuel, e.g. propane through a nozzle 18 under control of a valve 24, the fuel being discharged through outlets 12, and a manually actuated piezo-electric source 26 connected in an electric circuit which provides a spark gap 32 adjacent one of the outlets 12, the gap being provided between an electrode 28 which is made of flat strip like material and has a painted end 38, and an earthing electrode 30 which may be of similar configuration simply of wire, the two being mounted on an insulating member 34 and the electrode 28 being disposed so as to provide a gas flow barrier for gas from the adjacent outlet 12 to deflect the stream towards the spark gap 32. The electrode 28 may be provided with lateral extensions to aid in this deflection of the gas stream. In a further embodiment the outlets 12 are provided in the cylindrical side walls of the head 10 rather than in the end face as in Fig. 1 and the electrode 30 is dispensed with, the spark being formed between the pointed end 38 of the electrode 28 and the metallic body of the head 10.
