Abstract

1321757 Furnace hoods; cooling panels KOPPERS CO Inc 6 Sept 1971 [27 Oct 1970] 41523/71 Headings F4B and F4S A basic oxygen furnace hood is provided with a plurality of cooling panels 13 to cool the furnace exhaust gases, each panel comprising a first plate 25 connected to a second undulant plate 27 to define a space therebetween through which space cooling water is passed. The space between the plates is divided into elongate channels 30 by divider plates 29, 35 welded to both plates 25, 27. Divider plates 35 and flanges 31 formed at the edges of the undulant plate longitudinally stiffen the panels 13. Pipes 39 carried by lugs 37 provide means whereby the panels are supported on a tubular water carrying frame (23), Fig. 1 (not shown). The first plate 25 terminates at its lower end in an inlet header tank (41), Fig. 2 (not shown), having a central inlet (45). The lower edge of the first plate slopes up towards each edge of the panel from a central lowest point to define a shaped inlet channel (49) to the space defined by the panel whereby water flow velocities through each of the channels 30 is made equal. An outlet header tank (43) is provided.
