1321119 Doffing and donning apparatus MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 17 Dec 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 59897/70 Heading DID Apparatus for removing full cops 6 from a row of spindles 26 of a ring-spinning or twisting machine and for placing empty tubes 5 on to the spindles comprises a movable support 7 provided with an elongate inflatable tube 12 which grips the cops or tubes by pressing them against stops 9, which may be knurled, spaced along the support at a pitch corresponding to that of the spindles. To correspond with the taper of the tubes 5 the stops may be set at an angle, as shown, or they may be coned. The stops may alternatively be positioned to coact with the outer surfaces of the cops and tubes opposite the inflatable tube in which case they may have concave surfaces to mate with the cops and tubes, or they may consist of studs displaced by one half pitch relatively to the spindles so that each cop or tube engages two studs. The cops or tubes are released when the tube 12 is deflated by being connected either to vacuum or to atmosphere, and in the latter case springs may assist the collapse of the tube, and the springs may be of graded strength along the length of the support so that cops are released in succession. The support is moved vertically by a motor driven winch and cables and laterally by linkage operated by a pneumatic piston and cylinder.
