Abstract

1320854 Exhaust gas turbo-chaigers KUHNLE KOPP & KAUSCH AG 3 May 1971 [2 May 1970(2) 18 Aug 1970] 12809/71 Headings F1C F1G and F1T The invention relates to an exhuast gas turbocharger which comprises a turbine rotor 1 and a compressor impeller 37 mounted on a common shaft 15, the turbine rotor having blades 2 through which exhaust gas flows radially inwardly with an axial component as indicated by the flow arrows 36, 3. The inlet edges 4 of the rotor blades are inclined at an angle #3 to a line parallel to the rotational axis, the inflowing gas flow 36 being normal to the inlet edge 4 as seen in Fig.1. The rotor blades are shaped as seen in Fig. 5 so that the inlet edges are directed at an angle #1 less than 90 degrees to the rotational axis. The turbine casing 7 is shaped to form a single-flow volute casing for full circumferential admission to the rotor there being at least two gas inlet conduits 40, 41 which combine into the volute such that the inlet cross-section into the single flow volute casing is only slightly larger than each of the cross-sections at the ends of the gas conduits.
