Abstract
1320786 Gas scrubber M MIURA 23 June 1970 30482/70 Heading B1R Gas to be scrubbed enters a chamber 2 through a tangentially disposed inlet 1 and passes upwardly in a cylindrical member comprising a number of separate units, the member being closed at its upper end and open at its lower end. Each unit comprises slit openings 7 and 9 in lower and upper sections of its wall each slit having an associated tangential louvred gas flow guide 8, all the inlet louvres being tangential in the same sense as inlet 1 and all the outlet louvres being tangential in the opposite sense (see Fig. 9, not shown), the arrangement being such that gas entering openings 7 entrains and atomises liquid in the bottom of chamber 2 and a mixture of gas and liquid passing out of the cylindrical member through the outlets 9 is separated by centrifugal force in chambers 13, 14 surrounding the upper section of each unit, purified gas leaving the uppermost unit being withdrawn through conduit 18, while wash liquid collecting in chamber 5 is returned by line 19 to sump 5. Another embodiment the abutting upper and lower sections of the contact members are conical and inverted conical respectively, and the inlet and outlet slits are triangular in configuration (see Fig. 6, not shown). If desired, different wash liquids may be used in each unit, or the flow of wash liquid through the apparatus as a whole may be in counterflow to the stream of gas. Alternative slit and louvre configurations are also described (see Figs. 10, 11; not shown).
