Abstract

1320695 Ventilators CREATORS Ltd 26 June 1970 [27 June 1969] 32754/69 Heading F4V An adjustable plastics air outflow diffuser, to be mounted on a vehicle dashboard, comprises a housing 30 having a rectangular outlet 37, within which is mounted a pivotable louvre unit 31, and behind unit 31 a pivoted control valve 32, the unit and the valve controlling the direction and the volume of air flow through the housing respectively the valve being controlled by manual means rotating coaxially with the louvre unit but independently of it and accessible from the front of the housing. In one embodiment, Fig. 7, manual pivoting of the louvre unit 31 to vary the air flow direction is effected by rotating a toothed wheel 50 rigid with the unit and accessible from the outlet 37, whilst manual control of the pivoted flap valve 32 is effected by a toothed control wheel sector 33 acting through a coupling shaft 34. The latter shaft which is rotatably mounted on a spindle 44 of the louvre unit 31 has a toothed driving sector 61 which engages a toothed driven sector 60 of the valve 32. Ribs (not shown) within the housing define the fully opened and closed positions of the flap valve. In a modification (Figs. 1-6, not shown) a manually activated control wheel or wheel sector for the valve, meshes directly with the toothed sector on the flap valve. Longer teeth may be provided on the drive or driven wheels or wheel sectors to held the valve in the closed or open position by over-centre effect. In a modification a pivoted lever may replace the toothed control wheels.
