Abstract

1320592 Testing light beam alignment DURA CORP 28 Sept 1971 16 Oct 1970] 45123/71 Heading G1A A system for monitoring the position of an edge 12 of a light spot 13 includes at least two photo-cells 17, 18 whose outputs are subtracted one from another, the resultant signal being displayed on a meter 23. In testing the alignment of a car head lamp, the car is positioned a standard distance from a board 10 marked with lines 11 and 14 which represent the upper and left positions of the high intensity zone of a correctly aligned headlamp. Photo-cell pairs 17, 18 and 19, 20 are arranged straddling the two lines. An operator adjusts the headlamp position until the two meters each provide a maximum reading, indicating that the headlamp alignment is correct. Alternatively, the two photo-cell pairs are arranged on brackets and are moved until the meters each give a maximum reading. The amount of movement indicates the amount of misalignment of the headlamp. A converging lens may be arranged between the headlamp and the board 10. The photo-cells may be located on the back surface of the screen, which is then either provided with suitable apertures (51-54), Fig. 4 (not shown) or made of translucent material.
