Abstract

1320094 Shipbuilding KAWASAKI JUKOGYOKK 19 April 1971 [7 March 1970] 23439/71 Heading B7S A method of building a hull section 9 of the type comprising a curved outer skin 4 supported on a framework of transverse members 8 and longitudinal members 7 comprises (i) arranging the longitudinal members 7 in a spaced array on stands 12, (ii) clamping the transverse members 8 above members 7 in clamps 11 in the prescise position required, (iii) raising the members 7 one by one into slots 10 of members 8 by means of lift truck 15 and welding in position, (iv) welding the structure of members 7 and 8 in place on the curved outer skin 4 which is supported on a correspondingly shaped jig comprising pillars 2 on platform 1. A known method of building the same type of hull section is described with reference to Figs. 1a-1f and 2 (not shown).
