Abstract
1319730 Resistance heating elements KLIMA-TECHNIK ANSTALT 30 Dec 1971 60873/71 Heading H5H A high temperature (600‹ C.) resistance mass for a flat electric heating element comprises a conductive pigment and a binder, the binder containing at least one organometallic compound which decomposes, at least partially, by oxidation on baking at 400‹ C. to leave a predominantly inorganic residue to bind the pigment to a substrate. The binder may comprise organic titanium acid esters, e.g. polymericn-butyl-titanate or in addition a mixture of esters constituting less than 10% by weight of the polymeric-n-butyl-titanate. The binder may constitute 20-80% by weight of temp. resistant silicone resins and 20-100% by weight (based on polymeric-n-b-t) of ethylene glycol to stabilize the mass. Additives for increasing strength and electrical properties may be polyimides organic substitution products of siloxane, e.g. poly-m-carborane-siloxanes, silicones, and silicones with metal additives. Resistance to heat and corrosion may be increased by adding soot, graphite, aluminium powder and/or heating wire alloys. The conductive pigment may comprise a metal powder (aluminium, zinc, copper, heating wire alloy) and/or graphite powder and soot. The resistive mass may be used in elements for tunnel furnaces, baking ovens and cooker plates. In test examples described, the resistance lacquer was applied to thermally devitrified glass fibre fabric strips, the strips baked and silver contents applied to opposite sides of the strip.
