Abstract

1319666 Cooling reaction vessel DEGGENDORFER WERFT UND EISENBAU GmbH 23 Nov 1970 [18 Dec 1969] 55535/70 Heading B1X [Also in Division F4] In a cooling arrangement in which heat carrying medium heated in a reaction vessel (21 Fig. 3 not shown) is cooled in a cooler and then recirculated back to the reaction vessel, the cooler comprises a jacket 1 within which a nest of cooling tubes 2 extending between tube plates 3, 4 fitted with end caps 5 and 6 is eccentrically disposed. A series of baffles 8-12 are provided to constrain the medium to be cooled to follow a sinuous path upwardly in contact with the tubes. An annular bypass duct 20 surrounds the tubes. A vertically movable hollow slide 17 controls the proportion of heat carrying medium from the reaction vessel bypassing the coller tubes. The bypassing portion admixes with the cooled portion at the outlet 15 and is thereafter circulated back to the reaction vessel at a lower temperature. The heat carrying medium may be a salt bath which is used to extract heat from the vessel. An impeller disposed in (Fig. 3) or adjacent the reaction vessel (Fig. 5) promotes circulation of the salt bath.
