Abstract

1319476 Retractive switches; hand actuating devices for switches; resistance motor controllers LUCERNE PRODUCTS Inc 3 Sept 1970 [18 Sept 1969] 42300/70 Headings H1N and HIS [Also in Division B3] A trigger-actuated combined switch and speed control device for a portable electric motor driven tool comprises a contact carrier 25 reciprocable in the switch casing 10 and having a trigger handle 50 mounted thereon with manually operable means 72, 70 for selectively positioning the trigger 50 with respect to the carrier 25 whereby the maximum travel can be preset. As shown, the carrier 25 is retained in the housing 10 by a projection 42 co-operating with a groove 43, and the trigger 50 is retained on carrier 25 by a projection 57 co-operating with a slot 62. The materials are sufficiently resilient to allow the carrier 25 to be initially inserted into the housing 10 and the trigger 50 to be assembled thereon by forcing into position. The screw 70 is adjustable by its head 72 to vary the spacing A<SP>1</SP> and thus set the maximum distance the carrier 25 can be moved into housing 10. The carrier 25 is provided with two contact members 15 (15<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, not shown) for bridging fixed contacts 11, 12 (11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP>) when depression of tripper 50 allows members 15 (15<SP>1</SP>) to drop off an insulating cam 37 which is formed integrally with housing 10 and serves to secure the contacts 11, 12 (11<SP>1</SP>, 12<SP>1</SP>). The carrier 25 is also provided with a wiping contact 45 (Fig. 6) which slides over a resistance strip 46. A reversing switch 85, operable by a handle 86, is also fitted.
