Abstract

1319426 Ornamental object G W W WADDINGTON 9 Aug 1971 37318/71 Heading B6G An ornamental object is produced by providing a base sheet of paper having regular or irregular outline and having regularly arranged surface indentations with surface relief provided by glueing thereon smaller shaped pieces of the same material, or by applying a settable plastic material; cutting a sheet of smooth, malleable metal foil having at least one shiny surface to the overall shape of the base sheet, allowing for overlap; applying an adhesive to one side of the foil and to the upper surface of the base sheet, placing the metal foil in position on the base sheet with the adhesive sides contiguous and the shiny surface of the foil exposed; moulding the foil to the contours of the surface of the base sheet before the adhesive has set, avoiding creases, tears and air pockets, folding surplus foil over and glueing to the underside of the base sheet, so as to produce an ornamental object having a beaten and embossed appearance; applying an ink which adheres to metal to the surface of the foil, allowing the ink to dry only partially, and rubbing the surface to remove some of the ink, but leaving small quantities, in the surface indentations so as to achieve an aged look. The base sheet may be rough water colour paper. The metal foil may be aluminium cooking foil.
