Abstract

1319360 Clamps for workpieces W J CLARKSON Ltd 13 Dec 1971 [30 Dec 1970] 61801/70 Heading D1G A work clamp for use in folding and stitching a piece of material comprises a plate 1 having a well 6 in one surface thereof, the well having an edge 5 parallel to and outside a slot 7 forms through the plate, two blades 14, 15 pivoted to the plate and movable from an inoperation position as shown by blade 15 in Fig. 1 to a position where they fold the work as shown by blade 14 in Fig. 1. In operation a piece of material to be stitched is placed over the well and a blade 28 is placed over the material, the blades 14, 15 are moved inwardly to fold the material over the edge 29 of blade 28 and the blade 28 removed. A second piece of material is then placed in position to be stitched through the slot 7. A cover plate 23 may be provided to hold the two pieces of material together. The blades 14, 15 are held in their folded positions by spring members 22. A projection 10 on presser foot 11 moves in the slot on the opposite side of the plate to well 6 so that the plate can be guided for stitching. The surfaces of the clamp adjacent the material are roughened with baize or emery paper to grip the material and the whole plate may be in laminated form. Movement of the clamp may be by the feed dog of the machine.
