Abstract

1309937 Feeding by clamps NECCHI SpA 21 July 1970 [21 July 1969] 35239/70 Heading D1G Apparatus for attaching a patch pocket on to a shirt front or the like comprises a clamp 12 for folding and guiding the pocket as it is sewn and a contoured pattern 13 wherein an electromagnetically urged follower pin 22 follows the pattern and through a system of levers controls the movement of the clamp 12, the folding of the patch pocket being achieved by side and end folding blades 50, 51 which operate simulataneously upon movement of a single actuator and which, through a lost motion linkage drive a second series of blades 79 which complete the folding operation for one part of the pocket. In order to fold the pocket it is located in between plates 93, 119 of clamp 121 above a plate 24 which holds the garment which is to receive the pocket. The clamp is moved upwardly so that a blade 41 is brought level with the clamp 121 and the blades 118, 140 are adjacent the gap in clamp and the plates 50, 51, 79 are below the level of the clamp. A cylinder 103 is actuated to move the blade 108 inwardly and consequently move the blades 140, 126 inwardly so that part of the edges of the pocket are pressed between the blades 119, 120 of the clamp and the edges hang downwardly from the clamp. Immediately after this operation the actuator 59 is operated and moves the plates 50, 51, 79 inwardly to fold the edges which were hanging down into a position between the plates 120 and 24. The blade 79 has a lost motion drive provided by a slot so that it operates after the blades 50, 51 having moved into the folding position. When the pocket has been folded an electromagnet (not shown) urges the follower 22 against the template 13 and the follower operates as in Patent No. 1136730 to move the work clamp in accordance with shape of the template.
