Abstract
1319317 Feeding strip stock U S INDUSTRIES Inc 29 June 1970 31322/70 Headings B3Q and B3W Fine adjustment of the stroke length of means for feeding strip to a punching, shearing or forming press is achieved by means of a differential gear assembly for rotating an eccentric, connected to a rack for driving the strip feed means, relative to the shaft of a T-bolt mounted in a throw block operatively connected to the crank-shaft of the press. As shown, Fig. 3, a T-bolt 17 is adjustably mounted, by means of adjusting screw 18, in throw plate 10 connected to press crank-shaft 14. An eccentric 32 integral with a hub 33 is rotatable in a housing 28 welded in an opening 27 in a rack 20. The shaft 23 of pinion 22 is drivingly connected to a pair of feed rolls (not shown). Rotatably mounted on the hub 33 is a worm-wheel 77 for driving a differential gear carrier 83, 84. The differential gear assembly comprises parallel shafts 91, (91a) (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown), on which are rotatably mounted gear sleeves 88 (88(a)). A gear 100 on sleeve 88 meshes with a gear 96 fixed to the hub 33 and with a gear 100a on gear sleeves 88a. Gear 100a also meshes with gear 96 on the shaft 19 of the T-bolt 17. During press operation, the gears 95, 96, 100 and 100a continuously rotate to maintain the eccentric 32 in selected angular disposition on the shaft 19. To vary the length of the feed stroke, while the press is running or at rest, the worm-wheel 77 is rotated by a wormgear 69 via shafts 102, 104, 112, 114, (115) and a hand wheel (116), Fig. 6 (not shown). This rotates the gear 96 and hub 33 relative to gear 96 and shaft 19 so as to rotate the eccentric 32 relative to the shaft 19 and thus vary the stroke of the rack 20. An indicator finger (127) on shaft (115) co-operating with a scale, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), shows the position and thus the amount of adjustment needed, if any, of the rack relative to the throw block 11. Arrows on the plate (129) carrying the scale indicate the direction of rotation of the hand wheel for lengthening or shortening the feed stroke. Coarse stroke adjustment is provided for by the adjusting screw 18.
