1318783 Liquid dispensing apparatus J W LEES & CO (BREWERS) Ltd 23 April 1971 [29 April 1970] 20511/70 Heading A4T In a method and apparatus therefor by which gas used in the dispensing of liquids, e.g. beer, from a container or barrel can be recovered for further use, a gas pressure bottle 10 via pressure gauge 13 and pipe 12 can force beer from barrel 11 via a pump or beer engine 15 to tap 16, and when barrel 11 is empty of beer it is connected as at 11a via line 23 and gas dryer and filter 29 to a gas reservoir 18 entering a compressor 22 which withdraws the gas from barrel 11a into reservoir 18 until gauge 21a indicates a pressure in 11a of say 2 p.s.i. when a cut-out switch 21 stops the compressor. The barrel 11a is then returned to the brewery for refilling with beer. When pressure bottle 10 is exhausted, beer is dispensed by pressure from reservoir 18 via valve 28, filter 19 and solenoid valve purity detector 26. Reservoir 18 may be further pressurized from pressure bottle 10a and be provided with drain 27, pressure gauge 25 and a cut-out switch stopping the compressor if the pressure in reservoir 18 rises above say 120 p.s.i. The gas recovery unit within dotted lines 30 may form a unit on a trolley.
