Abstract
1318464 Portable fire extinguishers COMPAGNIE CENTRALE SICLI 19 Aug 1970 [20 Aug 1969 17 July 1970] 39914/70 Heading A5A Apparatus for dispensing a product under pressure, e.g. a fire extinguisher, comprises a container with closure means which withstands the dispensing pressure when closed, a removable cartridge containing a product to be dispensed and having its walls supported by the container wall against rupture by the dispensing pressure and having one wall or part thereof rupturable by that pressure, and a bottle of pressurised propellant, the cartridge and bottle being housed in the container, and means being provided to release the pressurised propellant into the cartridge with the closure means closed. Figs. 1, 2, 3 show alternative constructions in which (1) the container head 2 is removable and the gas bottle 11 is housed within cartridge 9; (2) head 2 is removable and bottle 11 is in a separate compartment 13 outside 9; (3) head 2 is non-removable and base 16 forms the removable closure. The fire extinguisher of Fig. 1 has closure head 2 hinged at 3 to container 1 and securable thereto by hook 4. Removable cartridge 9 of extinguishant houses propellant bottle 11 supported in auxiliary housing 13. Actuating lever 6 is situated such that its end 5 can rupture bottle 11. The bottom and side walls of 9 are supported against rupture by container walls 1. However part 10 of the top wall is rupturable by the pressure of released propellant on actuation of lever 6, and communicates with dip tube 12. A duct is also formed in head 2 leading from 10 to hose 7 and nozzle 8. On actuation of lever 6 a rupture of 11 the pressurised propellant forces extinguishant up tube 11 to rupture 10. The cartridge may be of sheet metal, plastics or cardboard and is also claimed. The apparatus may be for any application where the compressed gas bottle is to be replaced when empty, e.g. siphons or atomisers operating through compressed air.
