Abstract

1318227 Hydraulic or pneumatic reciprocating motors D G WELLS 31 Dec 1971 [15 Jan 1971] 2111/71 Headings F1A and F1S A reciprocating motor comprises a member 5, 6 biased away from a port 4 through which a stream of gas or liquid passes, the member 5, 6 being caused to perform a downward stroke by the action of the fluid flowing through the port until the flow decreases to such an extent that the bias causes a return stroke. The bias may be a metal or rubber tension spring 7, air in a confined space or an electromagnet (not shown). Reciprocation of the member 5, 6 is converted into rotation of a flywheel 11 by a crank mechanism 8, 9, 10, a unidirectional clutch or ratchet and pawl mechanism. A guide 12, a duplicated crank mechanism or a modified spring is used to maintain the member 5, 6 vertical. In the embodiment shown liquid is supplied to an open container 1, but if gas is used the container is closed, flow being induced therethrough by a compressor or vacuum pump.
