Abstract

1317847 Ferrous ions in water MITSUBISHI JUKOGYO K K 9 Aug 1971 [14 Aug 1970] 37237/71 Heading C7B An electrolytic cell for adding ferrous ions to water comprises a perforated anode plate 24, a cathode plate 31, at least one elongated iron member 30 provided vertically above the anode plate, cathode members 31a located parallel to and extending above the iron member and an insulator between the iron member and the cathode members. Water is passed into the cell via inlet 28 and out through outlet 32. Drain pipe 27 is normally closed. The insulator may be a perforated synthetic resin screen 35. The iron members 30 may be placed centrally and the cathode members 31a distributed around the perifery of the cell. Alternatively the iron members may be fixed in groups to the anode plate each group having its own insulating frame. In one embodiment the cathode member is situated within a tubular iron member. The anode may be made of platinum, lead silver alloy Fe 3 O 4 , or platinum coated titanium and may be protected by a carbon plate 29.
