Abstract
1317689 Coating UTVECKLINGS AB TENET 20 Aug 1971 [31 Aug 1970 13 Aug 1971] 39221/71 Heading B2E [Also in Divisions C3 D1 and F4] Water-wetted surfaces (e.g. metal, concrete, paper, plastics or wood) are dried by stripping water therefrom by applying a surfactant having a hydrophilic part and a hydrophobic part which parts are in hydrophilic-lipophilic balance so that the surfactant is soluble. A water-insoluble organic polar compound is preferably dissolved in the surfactant, and comprises a polar group (which bonds itself to the stripped surface) to render it water-repellent or corrosion-inhibiting and a hydrocarbon radical linked to the polar group. Groups of compounds suitable for use as the surfactant include alcohols, glycols, ketones, aldehydes, or organic sulphates or alkylaryl sulphonates which are liquid at room temperatures. Groups of substances suitable for use as the waterinsoluble organic polar compound include amines, long-chain fatty acids, phosphate esters, alkylated thiocarbamates, or alkylated benzoates. Further additives include substances for improving distribution (e.g. ketones such as acetone), substances for forming protective films (e.g. glycerin monooleate, liquid paraffin) and antioxidants (e.g. 2, 6-di-tert-butyl-4- methyl phenol). The surfactant is applied by spraying in fine drops, squirting as a liquid, brushing or dipping.
