Abstract
1317668 Sponge iron METALLGESELLSCHAFT AG and STEEL CO OF CANADA Ltd 24 Aug 1971 [11 Sept 1970] 39761/71 Addition to 1297070 Heading C7D Reoxidation of sponge iron during storage or transit is prevented by passing through it air and/ or nitrogen to which ammonia has been added, preferably in a concentration of 1 to 160 gm. per standard cubic metre. The mixture may be passed through the pile of sponge at 1 to 15 cubic metres per hour per square metre of bottom surface and may be recirculated after removal of water vapour. Ammonia may be added to the gas in a mixer, or may be sprayed in liquid form on to the ore pile; the gas may be slightly pre-heated before passage through the ore.
