Abstract
1317276 Thermoelectric devices EGYESULT IZZOLAMPA ES VILLAMOSSAGI RESZVENYTARSASAG 29 May 1970 [8 Aug 1969] 26119/70 Heading H1K At least one of the limbs of a wire thermocouple comprises two or more strands of a metal or alloy having a melting point above 2000‹ C., at least one of the strands being arranged spirally relative to the wire axis, having a protective coating with a heat transfer coefficient greater than 600 k.cal./m.<SP>2</SP>h.‹C. The metal may comprise a W, Mo or Re alloy and may comprise a plurality of strands twisted together or wound spirally round one or more central conductors. The protective coating may comprise SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 , BeO, ThO 2 , ZrO 2 , HfO 2 , CaO, or MgO, a mixture of two or more of these oxides, or a ceramic. Two such stranded wires of different materials may be threaded through a twin bore ceramic tube and fused together and into the ceramic at one end to form the hot junction. The assembly is mounted in a ceramic protective tube, Fig. 2 (not shown), or may be embedded in a brick forming part of a furnace wall, Fig. 3 (not shown). A similarly constructed thermocouple unit may be mounted on an electrical connector, Fig. 1 (not shown), the device being utilized by inserting only the sensitive tip into a molten bath to determine its temperature.
