Abstract

1317262 Lubricants MONSANTO CHEMICALS Ltd 19 April 1971 [10 March 1970] 11378/70 Heading C5F Basic lubricants comprise a co-dispersion of a hydroxy-substituted aliphatic monoamine and an alkali or alkaline earth metal carbonate (which may be prepared in situ) in a lubricating oil containing an oil-soluble organic sulphate detergent. Many examples of hydroxy amines are given, including ethanolamine, triethanolamine, 2-amino-2-hydroxymethyl- 1,3-propanediol, 2-dimethylaminoethanol and 1-di-n-butylamino-2-propanol. The lubricant may also contain phenols, arylamines, alkylphenol sulphides, alkyl salicylic acids, N-substituted alkenyl succinimides, sulphurized phenols or hydrocarbons, phosphosulphurized hydrocarbons and silicones (no specific examples given) and zinc dinonyl dithiophosphate, tricresyl phosphate and copolymers of lauryl and methyl methacylate.
