Abstract

1317169 I.C. engine valves EATON CORP 14 July 1970 [14 July 1969] 34087/70 Heading F1B [Also in Division F2] A poppet valve for an I. C. engine, has a sealed cavity therein which is partly filled with a liquid coolant which under operating conditions of the valve vaporizes, predominantly by nucleate boiling and condenses to improve heat transfer between the valve head and stem. The coolant may be water and occupy at least 65% of the cavity. Alternatively the coolant may be monoisopropyl biphenyl or a eutectic mixture of 26À5 per cent by weight of diphenyl and 73À5% of diphenyl oxide.
