Abstract
1316969 Cyclone reactor; cyclone separator J M JENKINS 15 Sept 1970 [15 Sept 1969] 41534/69 Headings B1F and B2P Ammonium chloride occluded with water formed as a byproduct in the preparation of diazocyclopropane is sucked out as a sludge through tube 108 so that it cannot catalyse unwanted side reactions. A cyclone separator is used as the reactor. A ketone or aldehyde is introduced at tangential inlet 100 to produce a vortex, chlorine and ammonia are injected through spouts 102 and 103, and liquid diazocyclopropane product is drawn off through 101. Active carbon granules may be injected with the ketone and removed with the ammonium chloride. The level of the lower end of tube 108 is adjustable, and cooling coils are arranged around the cyclone to keep the reaction temperature at -15 to +40C. A grid or filter may be provided in outlet 101 for preventing passage of solid ammonium chloride.
